throwback

since i've been once called a pasumian,

lemme share few useful infos that might come in handy (for future pasum students):

• orientation week

       this week is the most fun-filled week for your entire session in pasum life and it started after hayat and fizikal students checked in their rooms. the orientation will be organised by our very own PASUM alumnis. so basically, they've been thru life as a PASUM students. so use this opportunities to ask anything and everything you want to them. this orientation week basically they share you about things you need to know when you're in PASUM later on which would really help - for real. you're going to be purchasing few items like baju pasum, lab coat, books and more. so prepare duit lebih. most importanty, have fun! that is actually this week is all about, because there's going to be a lot of fun activities like exploraces, lawan energizers, dance and more. there's no denda seksa thingy, so chill and laugh. anyways, great tips for this week is to just go for it and be confident - it could be a great turnover sometimes.

• KUAZ

       Kolej Kediaman Kesebelas or Kolej Kediaman Ungku Aziz or fair;y known as KUAZ is where it is like home to you sbb you makan tidur belajar and have fun semua kat situ. it consists of 4 separate blocks of 4 floors. blok A (Awana),B (Bayu), C (Flora) and D (Impiana). ladies in A and C while gents the rest. the architure of each block is different and the floor perimeter is different too. blok A have 1 toilet for every 4 rooms while blok C have 1 toilet for the WHOLE floor (but of course it's slightly bigger). so, if you nak bilik best, besar and all, siap awal so daftar bilik awal. you gotta choose the bed as well. 

every bilik got 2 double decks so muat for 4 peeps theoretically. tpi klu ada study sesh ke party ke what not, muat je 15 peeps. there's a balcony too (fits 4 standing peeps all at once). so you can sidai there too. each peep is accommodate with a desk and a bookshelf and a chair for in-room educational purposes. locker is very small - you'll know. 

washing machine ada every floor and it costs RM2 for every use and requires additional coins if time exceeds an hour. dryer is available on first and third floor and it costs RM3 for every 45 mins. but there's washing area in the toilet too if you need to hurry. the queue for both machines are tiring sometimes so you need some real patient to hang in there.

in that very perimeter, there's a cafe, and makanan dia murah compared to cafe PASUM- you'll know. you can access to it anytime, even when you want to belajar kat situ 2 3 pagi. but opening hours dia from maybe 7 - idk im not a morning person - up until 9.30 or 10 liddat. and nk makan you hefta order and wait and pay then eat. hujung sekali, ada kedai photostat (that's what i called it) where you can get all the lecture notes and sometimes tutorials. past years questions pun ada for mid sem exams and finals. kedai photostat tu also got computers where you can get your docs directly printed out on the spot if you have matters to settle down. kedai runcit - right next to kedai photostat - sells a lot of necessities like sabun maggi chocolates and more

Dewan Pendeta is at the middle of KUAZ (island-like). its a hall where most of KUAZ activities and programs are held. pejabat KUAZ is on the left side of the dewan which is facing the guard house. so, if you buy anything online, you can receive them there. main surau is on ground floor located at the backside of Dewan Pendeta, worry not, surau selalu diimarahkan with tazkirahs and ceramahs by qualified and dignified ustazs. there's a laundry service next next to surau. but i'd rather queue for the washing machine lol.

• PASUM

lecture hall is divided into two, audi and DKU. hayats use AUDI and fizikals use DKU for sem 1 and vice versa in sem 2. people who gets AUDI for their lecture halls are considered lucky because there's wifi while DKU doesn't. but both are air conditioned. the halls fit few hundreds of people - forgotten lah.  DKU is located at the lower level of PASUM perimeter. basically there are students from RPKJ program - japanese-based learning kids. then we have labs. chemistry, biology and physics labs, all are located on different level of floor and sometimes in different neighboring buildings. kbt is where tutorial classes are held nearby AUDI area while bt (bilik tutorial) is in DKU perimeter. elevator is available up to 6th floor but it is usually packed. so if you're late to lab sesh, sprint up the stairs please haha.

pejabat PASUM is on ground floor. you can hand in your mc there. bilik pensyarah ada dua spot, satu spot in bangunan PASUM and satu lagi in blok pensyarah itself. class representative kena alert sbb nk submit assignments ke apa ke senang. but others have to know as well if you have anything to settle down with the lecturers. now, library is on the fourth floor of bangunan PASUM. there are computers and a lot of reference books as usual and surau. there are a lot of suraus you can choose from. there are on so many floors even on ground floor. cafe is at the right side of bangunan PASUM but a bit tersorok. people usually call cafe PASUM. the price is killing if you jenis yang makan byk like me haha. anyways, you purchase like gerai, where you amik tu amik ni and you pay. easy and no need to tunggu. but there's still a queue sbb people amik nasi so snail-like.

there's one more thing - payung. its not an accessory, its a necessity. during musim hujan, hujan biasa time nk pergi and balik dari classes. i've tried to balik kolej from pasum payungless once, tak smpi 100 metre from PASUM, lencun like baru keluar dari pool. during musim panas pulak, fuhh panas gilaa - seriously. terik smpi people can demam and pening. so bring payung along anywhere you go.

• learning seshs (p&p)

we have lecture, tutorial class, lab session (practical). lecture session is the time for lecturers to ajar you all the syllabus mcm cikgu selalu ajar kat kelas. then, by the end of the week, lecturers print out the tutorials and you have to amik in that very audi or DKU. atau suka hati lecturers nk bagi tutorials bila. so, you have to get the tutos done before tutorial classes. next, tutorial class. kelas tuto is where you semak your tutos with your tutors. it is held in kbt or bt. every tutors differs depends on subject and classes. every kelas ada 20 peeps below, so it is more conducive. sometimes, there's tests in tutorial classes which holds 15% to 20% of your finals. so be prepared.

lab sesh is where you know your hands-on skills - seriously. you conduct experiments with your labmates (which gabung 2-3 tutorial classes in 1 lab) and have to submit the reports on the spot. so tulis report siap siap before masuk lab, after buat exp terus tulis jwpn and hantar. it's a 3 hours session - itu pun tak cukup. chemistry lab sesh is the deadliest haha, sometimes i tak siap report, tambah pulak kena plot graph haduhh. but worry not, if you TERtak siap ke result slack sikit ke, you wont die. it's not the end yet.

• exams & tests

mid-sem exam held on the middle of the sem. exam ocr, bulat bulat je, that's why people usually mistook their ability and failed to perform in finals. eventho mid sem exam holds 20% or 15% of your final scores, it means a lot because if we slip up during finals, the mid sem score could help you. next, final exam holds 60% of the final total score. essay kinda exam. seriously the time given for the final papers is damn short that i couldn't even start my last essay. yup, there's a lot of questions, 4 essays at least  and few simply written questions for each paper of course. it's like paper 2 time spm. to be honest, study tutorials if you want to score. because basically soalan dia semua yg dia pernah tanya dalam lectures and tutorials . both exams are held in exam halls of UM which is 10 mins away from KUAZ by bus.

then we have tests, tests that hold up to 20% of finals except for chems. chems tutorials are considered the marks for the tests. these tests ()except chems) are usually in form of simple fill-in-the-blanks questions or question pattern that you've practiced in your tutorials. sometimes multiple choice questions.  the test is held during tutorial classes or lab hours. and it depends on your tutor to test you when. but worry not, they'll tell you in advance - except for few. and physics test is held every time there's a phy lab session in that very week. for lab, there is practical test where you have to conduct an experiment in your team - but only for physics. for bio, we have multiple choice question exam that asks practicality of lab use and things like that. they're held during the end of your second sem. sem 1 and sem 2 both consists of 5 months. it's not really a one-year program.

• merit system

we have such system as our markah koku, you kumpul more, then you'll have higher chance utk dpt courses yg you nk time nk apply for degree later on. so the way you nk kumpul the merits is by joining the programs and activities yg kolej and PASUM anjurkan, pegang jawatan as ajk or hicom jkp or involve dalam sports. seriously semua program and aktiviti tu mmg best tpi you have to prioritize your assignments and tutorial more. you need to set your priorities right.

• transportation

bus service in UM is free and very useful, so keep up dgn jadual masa and stops they make. there's a lot of bus stops in UM campus itself so it's really easy to get around. you just need to get on the right bus. there's buses for laluan A B and more depends on the route they're going to. if you want to go mid valley, you can take buses from PASUM or KUAZ or from anywhere in UM and get off at UM Central. UM central ada rapidkl bus direct to mid valley and more places. so its like a platform  for bus exchange and to travel out of UM. sekali naik rm1 for the rapidkl as usual.

but i would rather request and uber or grab driver to go to mid or nearby area because it'll only take like 10 minutes or so. it'll take half an hour at least if you go by bus - seriously. grab and uber usually costs rm5 for a 4-seater car and pricier if pick hour ofc. so having Grab or Uber apps or both is a must when you're a PASUM student because it help you to get around easily with reasonable price. it's gonna be your new bff. some tips: have both apps so that you can compare the price and choose the lowest, because the price differs most of the times.

anyways, no vehicles are allowed since we're only foundation kids. i mean having your own transport is abig no no unless its a bicycle. people usually bring their own bicycles so they can sprint to places when they missed the bus. you can make business out of it too.

• stomach issues

the best thing to share because food is life haha. during classes and gaps between classes, you'll get hungry or in crave to munch eventho you are not hungry in the moment. so have full stock on kekacangs, kerepeks or biscuits and chocolates because those precious are your lifesaver. it'll help you from tidur in lectures and help to bond with your tutorial mates.

meanwhile in kuaz, you really need a bunch of stock of maggis, biscuits and kerepeks and chocolates. but above anything else,maggi is the most important one haha - you'll eat more than you've eaten in your secondary years.

• health stuff

if you have fever or such thing and you cant attend classes and all, you got to have mc - seriously. because we have a system where if you tak attend class 3 times or more with no good reasons and proofs, you'll get barred from exams - means you cannot sit for finals. 

so cara you nk amik mc the easiest is to go to klinik pelajar which 8 mins +/- away from KUAZ or PASUM by bus. if you tak larat sgt sgt, you can ask for help from pejabat KUAZ, then they'll send you by their van. you hefta bring along kad pelajar and IC with you to klinik to get treatment for free 

and verification for mc.

• study tips

-buat tutorials and usaha until dpt the right answer. sbb basically soalan tutorials jugak yang lecturers amik for finals nnt.

-study utk tests betul betul, jgn amik smbil lewa sbb soalan tests selalu simple (for real) and banyak markah.

-focus time lecture sbb sometimes they point out mna yg dia tekankan utk finals. and also sbb ada point penting yang dia tak letak dlm notes.

-jgn skip lecture langsung, not even once, because it's addictive. as if its your drug.
-put your phones aside time lecture and tuto class.

• life tips in pasum and uni life

take it easy to know and digest the new culture you're interacting. culture shock is what i mean. be more tolerate with your friends but of course with rationality. be more understanding towards your friends and acquaintances as every each of you have been raised differently with different environment. so people have their own reasons to do things. and the way they think thing is different. advice them with wisdom if you think they're doing things wrongly. you've been selected into PASUM is because you qualified,so prove them it's true. use your ability to excel and use your weakness to be stronger and wiser.
